This Privacy Policy describes how 1FRIEND ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and safeguards your personal information when you use https://1friend.com (the "Platform"). By accessing or using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with these practices, please do not use the Platform.

We are based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and the Platform is available to users aged 13 and over worldwide. We comply with applicable privacy laws globally, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), and other applicable national and regional privacy laws.

2. Age Requirements & Parental Consent

Minimum Age. 1FRIEND is intended for users aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly permit children under the age of 13 to register for or use the Platform. If you are between 13 and 17 years old, we strongly encourage you to review this Privacy Policy with a parent or guardian before using the Platform.

COPPA (United States — Under 13). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately at privacy@1friend.com.

GDPR (European Union — Under 16 or Lower Age). Under the GDPR, the default age at which a child can provide valid consent without parental approval for online services is 16, though individual EU member states may lower this threshold to no younger than 13. If you are located in an EU member state where the digital age of consent is higher than 13, we may require verifiable parental consent before you can use certain features of the Platform.

PIPEDA (Canada). Under PIPEDA, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada treats users under 13 as unable to provide independent consent. For users aged 13 to 17, consent practices must be tailored to their cognitive maturity, and we use plain, age-appropriate language in our notices and consent mechanisms.

Emerging Age Verification Laws. We monitor developments in age verification requirements globally, including Canada's proposed Bill C-34 (which would restrict social media accounts for users under 16) and similar laws in other jurisdictions. We will update our practices as these laws come into effect.

3.4 Device & Usage Analytics

IP address and approximate geographic location (country/region level)


Device type, operating system, and browser type


Pages visited, features used, and time spent on the Platform


Referring URLs and search terms used to find the Platform

4. How We Use Your Information

To verify your age and ensure compliance with our minimum age requirement of 13.


To personalize your experience, including suggesting friends, groups, and events that may interest you.

To ensure safety and security, including detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, harassment, and other harmful behavior.


To improve the Platform, including analyzing usage patterns and developing new features.

Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR/UK GDPR): We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

Contract: Processing necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the Platform).


Legitimate Interests: Processing necessary for our legitimate interests, such as improving the Platform and ensuring safety, provided your rights are not overridden.


Consent: Where you have given us explicit consent, such as for marketing communications or certain cookies.

5. How We Share Your Information

Third-Party Disclosures for Children (COPPA): We do not disclose personal information collected from children under 13 to third parties for any purpose, as we do not knowingly collect such information. For users aged 13 to 17, we obtain separate opt-in consent before disclosing their information to third parties for purposes not strictly necessary to provide the Platform.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Platform. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Children's Data Retention (COPPA): We do not retain personal information collected from children under 13. For users aged 13 to 17, we retain data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, and we have defined limits on how long we keep this data.

Correction: You have the right to request that we correct any inaccurate or incomplete personal information.

Right to Erasure for Minors (PIPEDA/Canada): In line with emerging Canadian privacy recommendations, users who provided personal information while they were minors have the right to request deletion of that information. This right also applies to their parents or guardians. We will take reasonable steps, including using available technology, to delete all copies and links to such information.

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encryption of data in transit and at rest, regular security assessments, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

COPPA Data Security Program: We maintain a written security program and a data-retention framework as required by the amended COPPA Rule, with defined limits on how long we keep children's data.

9. International Data Transfers

Your personal information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence, including Canada and the United States. When we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, or Switzerland, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission or the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

11. Children's Privacy Notice (COPPA Compliance)

This section applies specifically to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@1friend.com. We will:

Delete the child's personal information from our records.


Terminate the child's account.


Refuse to permit further collection or use of the child's information.


We do not condition a child's participation in any activity on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to participate in that activity.
