There are a few movies where the jersey appears such as The Commitments, a movie from 1991 and The Van from 1996. The jersey appears often not only in sports contexts just because the directors want to show their national pride and the attachment for the team and country. Not to mention that in the FIFA video game created by EA Sports the supporters choose to play with the national team of Ireland that has an exact replica of the original jersey, therefore contributing to its international popularity.

The jersey is usually worn by Irish celebrities like musicians or actors when performing or in public appearances because this gesture strengthens the connection between sport and national culture. Also, the celebrities that wear it are proud of their nationality and want to show their support and appreciation. And when it comes to diaspora, the Ireland jersey is used by the Irish people in the USA, Canada, Australia or all over the world to express their origins, especially around St. Patrick or when the national team has a match.
